The town of Castlecomer is located north of Kilkenny city.  Castlecomer was famous for it’s coal mines which were in use from the 1600’s to 1969. 

Mining is classed as Ireland’s oldest industry and for this reason, memorabilia and information about this line of work will always be fascinating.    

A mining museum is now open at the Castlecomer Discovery Park.
